Invitations

Since most of the world is highly inspired by the Harry potter book series, the invitations should justify the characters and the party theme. In case the party is a quick and instant plan, use pre-printed invitations available in card stores. Simply fill in the details and send them to the guests. For a more enhanced and rousing invitation, buy lots of Harry Potter glasses and attach a simple card, enlisting the party details and asking the guests to come with the glasses bolted on their foreheads.

Costumes
While the theme itself will be sufficient to guide the invitees to plan their costumes for the party, in case they aren't Harry Potter fans, you will have to provide some fashion coaching. Send photos of characters along with the invitations. They can either choose to dress up in their favorite Harry Potter character or simply don dresses of witches and wizards. Characters that can be emulated include Harry, Hermoine, Dudley, Ron, Luna Lovegood, Draco Malfoy, Professor Hagrid, Dumbledore, Severus Snape, Dobby the Elf, dementors, werewolves, trolls, muggles, owls, cats, ghosts, frogs, and scabbers. Oh, and make sure there is one You-Know-Who (Lord Voldemort) even. Ask your guests to come to the party with party robes to fit into the Harry Potter theme party. Also, witches' and wizards' pointed hats and wands are great to include.

Decorations
The Harry Potter story itself provides a rich source of decorations. Pick up typical Halloween decorative items featuring ghosts, goblins, wizards, hats, magic potions, witches, broomsticks, spider webs, spiders, skeletons, and a lot more relevant to the Harry Potter movie. Hang a large Hogwarts banner in the party room to give the area the feel of a long banquet table, similar to the one in the story. Arrange antiques, old furniture, mirrors, candelabras, etc. at different strategic places. Fill up a large pot with assorted herbs and place it as a centerpiece on the table, labeling the table as Professor Sprout's class. Hang orange streamers across the entire party area. Paste glow-in-the-dark stars on the ceiling in case you desire to keep the lights dim. Suspend toy owls over the buffet table. You can also have walls with the banners of the four houses (Slytherin, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff and Gryffindor), and another with the school's motto, which translates to "never tickle a sleeping dragon".

Menu
Justify the party menu by sticking to the British classic dishes served to Harry Potter and his chums at Hogwarts. Have a large, tempting bowl of assorted jelly beans, chocolate frogs, and prank candy placed on the table for your guests to grab one or two while strolling around. Dementor finger cookies, magic wand pretzel sticks, boney bread buns, hotdog mummy wraps, golden dragon eggs, and Hagrid's pumpkin muffins are some delicacies to include in the party menu. Couple the lavish buffet meal with butter beer, pumpkin juice, and firewhiskey. To complete the meal, offer sweets and treats, like mad eye moody cupcakes, goblet of fire graveyard cupcakes, licorice wands, fudge flies, cockroach clusters, acid pops, and goose droppings.

Entertainment
After everyone has had his/her share of the gorgeous Harry Potter foods, play one of the Harry Potter movies. However, if no one seems to be in the mood to settle down and is still in the party temper, you can organize games, like game of quidditch, sorting hat ceremony, decipher the marauders map, bean boozled game, stomp the dementors, and triwizard tournament.

Music
To begin with, you can greet your guests by playing the soundtrack of the Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in the backdrop. As for the music to be played indoors, music from other parts of Harry Potter can be shuffle played.
